The Loss of a Loved One...

July 22 was a day of great sorrow for me...I lost a loved one very near to my heart -- H.P. No it was not Harry Potter, but rather my Hewlett Packard.

Some may say this is nothing like the loss of a living loved one (and having lost my father 6 years ago I would have to agree), but I must admit it is in the same ball park (although granted it may be out in left field -- that kind of "same ball park"). When you lose a loved one, you have so many times that you think to yourself, "How I wish I could talk with him about this subject or that subject". With a hard drive the thought processes go more like this, "How I wish I could pull up this file or that file." and you think fondly back on the day when life was good -- all of your macros worked great, all of your contact files were intact, you didn't worry that much about backups, everything you needed was at your fingertips.

But now that is all gone and life goes on. I go on "silently" (don't discuss this term with my family) recreating all that I have lost or trying to find it on scattered back ups. I am now finally treading above water and finding joy in digital life once again. Fortunately, all of my work files were backed up (I am very careful about that!)

So if there is something you would like to learn from my mistake it would be this:
SET UP BACK UPS, because YES, it can happen to YOU!

Stepping down....
